6 great original sci-fi and horror shows on Peacock you might have missed

The Peacock originals slate is hiding some great sci-fi and horror series.

The never-ending streaming wars mean we’ve had an absolute crush of original shows and movies spread across pretty much every service out there the past few years — so I thought it’d be a great time to shine the spotlight on Peacock and flag a half-dozen great sci-fi and horror shows you might’ve missed the first time around.

Plenty of them feature big stars, big concepts and big action — and they’re all genuinely great shows. Though most have already wrapped their runs, one is still going strong with a new season on the way (spoiler alert: it’s Anthony Mackie’s Twisted Metal).

So, let’s dig in.

Mrs. Davis

This ambitious sci-fi dramedy Mrs. Davis hit the streamer in 2023, and feels as prescient as ever with its storyline focused on the rise of AI and how it can affect humanity. The show stars Betty Gilpin, Jake McDorman and Andy McQueen and follows a nun who goes off on a wild adventure to try and figure out how faith and this new technology can make sense in the same world.

It’s big, smart, funny and just a great watch.

Hysteria!

Set in the 1980s right in the middle of the Satanic Panic, this 2024 original horror comedy assembled a great cast including Bruce Campbell, Julie Bowen and Anna Camp to tell a story about a group of teenagers just trying to ride the demonic wave to launch their rock band. But murder, mystery, panic and mayhem quickly get in the way.

It’s a twisty thriller that will keep you guessing until the end — then maybe guessing a bit more after that.

The Copenhagen Test

This one is an action-packed sci-fi spy thriller starring MCU star Simu Liu and Scream breakout Melissa Barrera. The pitch is a clever one: An intelligence agent’s brain is hacked, which turns his eyes into literal cameras to reveal top secrets.

It’s a thrill ride from start to finish, and if you’re still waiting on more Shang-Chi, this is a great distraction in the meantime featuring Liu at his best.

Teacup

This 2024 series was a wild, gory horror mystery starring Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman. The idea is basically: a family and group of neighbors end up trapped together when a mysterious force affects their homestead — and any attempt to leave is met with positively grisly resistance. Is it a disease? Something supernatural? Otherworldly? All of the above?

You’ll have to watch to the end to find out.

The Continental

Released in 2023, this miniseries project serves as a John Wick prequel telling some action-packed stories from the earlier days of the legendary Continental assassins hotel made famous in the film saga. Taking the franchise to TV was a bold move, and the show definitely plays in the same big, bloody action sandbox as the Keanu Reeves films.

The 1970s setting is a blast, and if you’re into the Wick-verse, this is a capable and compelling chapter you may have missed.

Twisted Metal

This comedy action series has carved out a great lane for itself, adapting the hit vehicular combat video game series for a bustling, hilarious world of racers looking to survive the most dangerous car combat contest the post-apocalypse has ever seen.

It stars Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Seanoa, Will Arnett, Thomas Haden Church, and Anthony Carrigan. Season 1 did a good bit of table-setting, while Season 2 was an absolute delight. A third season is on the way, which promises to only get zanier.
